A faithful priest and generous friend has gone down into an early grave. In the discharge of his sacred duties he approached the dying bed, when disease and contagion surrounded it, and despising his own life inhaled the deadly breath into his vigorous frame, whilst giving the comforts of religion to the dying poor. [..] Father Greene was a native of Drogheda, and was only a few years on the mission. On Monday last High Mass was celebrated for the repose his soul. Rev Father Campbell officiated as high priest; Rev Father M'Cann as daecon; Rev Father M'Donald as sub-daecon; and Rev Father Hanratty as master of ceremonies. The church was crowded to excess. At the termination of High Mass, the absolution was pronounced by the Rev James Powderly. At half-past one the funeral cortege began to move, and the assemblage resent must have been very close upon 2,000. The pupils of the Christian Schools came frist, then followed the students of St. Patrick's College, most of the clergy of the diocese, the hearse, the chief mourners, and last, the people of the city and diocese. It passed down Chapel-lane, Ogle-street, Thomas-street, Market-street, English-street, and on to the splendid new cathedral, in the floor of which the remains were deposited.
