Description

Artemisia mauiensis — Hinahina, ʻĀhinahina, or Maui wormwood; Asteraceae

  • Endemic to the Hawaiian Islands, Maui; Oʻahu (cultivated)
  • Foliage is faintly aromatic having a sagebrush/wormwood fragrance. Early Hawaiians used hinahina to preserve feather cloaks from insect destruction when stored in calabashes. The leaves were pounded for asthma.
