DescriptionAscariasis LifeCycle - CDC Division of Parasitic Diseases-gl.gif | Os vermes adultos (1) viven na luz do intestino delgado. Unha femia pode producir aproximadamente 200.000 ovos ao día, que son expulsados coas feces (2). Os ovos non fertilizados non son infecciosos. Os ovos fertilizados e embrionados son infecciosos desde os 18 días e durante varias semanas (3), dependendo das condicións ambientais (condicións óptimas: humidade, calor e chan sombreado). Tras inxerir os ovos infectivos (4), as larvas eclosionan (5), invaden a mucosa intestinal e son transportadas mediante a vea porta e o sistema sanguíneo ata os pulmóns. As larvas maduran nos pulmóns (6) (entre 10 e 14 días), penetran nas paredes alveolares, ascenden polos bronquios ata a gorxa e son tragadas (7). Antes de chegaren ao intestino delgado, os vermes mudan á fase adulta (8). Necesítanse entre 2 e 3 meses desde a inxestión dos ovos infectivos para que a femia poña ovos.
