English: Ashford Carbonell C of E School At the time this was taken the school was threatened with closure as either Caynham or Ashford Carbonell is going to close as the two schools merge. They say that when a village school dies, the village dies. Here it is reversed, the village is more or less comatose, but the school is thriving. Most pupils come in from neighbouring villages as young families are more or less priced out of this one - and those that are still here often go private.
Been some changes since I was there. Then there was no running water and hot water to wash with was carried in from the school house next door. The wooden bell house on the roof has gone, and the main entrance has moved, obviously as any child exiting will be playing dodge the Tonka Toy. |
