English: Ashop-Derwent outfall After the construction of the two dams in the upper Derwent valley (Derwent & Howden) it was found that the Derwent River did not provide sufficient water.
To collect more a tunnel was built between the River Ashop (at Alport Bridge SK1489) and the Derwent Reservoir. This picture is of the outlet of that construction. Eventually the Ladybower reservoir was constructed to collect the waters from the River Ashop and tributaries from the East, but as can be seen from this picture water is still at times diverted in this way. |
