DescriptionAssistens Kirkegård - Peter vin Scholten.jpg |
Peter von Scholten (1784-1854) var Governor General of Danish West Indies from 1835 to 1848. Under impression of the black revolt on St. Croix in 1848, he abolished slavery. This gave rise to some opposition to him among the plantation owners on the islands and back home in Denmark. The islands were purchased by the United States in 1917. |
