DescriptionAssos, Temple Of Athena.jpg	English: Athena Tapınağı Antik kentin en yüksek noktasında Athena Tapınağı bulunuyor. Arkaik çağ'da Anadolu'da yapılan ilk ve tek dor düzenindeki tapınak, hala büyüleyici havasını koruyor. Zeus’un kızı ve 12 Olimpos Tanrısından biri olan Athena kentin koruyucu tanrıçasıymış. Sağlam sütunlardan çıkarılan örnek kalıplarla dökülen yeni sütunlar ayakta. Karşınızda Midilli adası, görkemli Ege denizi, yüzünüzü okşayan rüzgar, özellikle gün batımında sizi antik çağlara götürecek kadar etkileyici. Tapınağın kutsal odasında bulunan tanrıça heykeli 1800'lü yıllarda Amerikalılar tarafından götürülmüş. Sütunların üzerlerindeki frizlerin(kabartmaların) bir kısmı Boston Müzesi, Louvre Müzesi ve İstanbul Arkeoloji müzesinde saklanıyor. Kabartmalarda Herakles ile ilgili bir hikaye anlatılıyor.
