Description
English: Apse of the church of La Asunción in Barrio de Santa María, Aguilar de Campoo (Palencia, Castile and León). Declared as Artistic Historical Monument. Romanesque church in origin, and despite having suffered multiple transformation (the first in the late 15th century), still retains an interesting end of 12th century Romanesque apse. It is formed by three bays, one of them hidden by a later construction. The vain central arch, is the most interesting and is decorated with sogueado and baquetón with balls and diamond tips archivolt. The vain supports a fascia of chequered. The Temple of plant two ships and vaults barrel vaults, star-shaped vaults, also has a beautiful cover Renaissance. Inside we can admire his altarpiece of the 16th century with bas-reliefs of the palentina school, which, in a surprising way, masked mural paintings from the 15th century, attributed to the master of San Felices preserved in its old Romanesque, apse wall depicting scenes of the assumption of the Virgin, Santa Catalina, San Sebastián and other Saints. Inside also be venerated among other images a Madonna with the child, of the 13th century, and a Romanesque-gothic Christ.
