Description

עברית: גבעת היל, על שם מייג'ור-ג'נרל ג'ון היל, מפקד המבצע לצליחת הירקון על ידי חיל המשלוח המצרי במלחמת העולם הראשונה, היא כיכר וגן קטן בראש גבעת כורכר בסמוך לגדה הדרומית של נחל הירקון בצפון הישן של תל אביב, בין הרחובות יהושע בן נון, שמעון התרסי ויוחנן הורקנוס. בעבר, חלש התל על סביבתו. כיום, בשל הבנייה הרוויה והגבוהה מסביב, קשה להבחין בטופוגרפיה הטבעית של האזור. בכיכר התגלו מערות קבורה ושרידי יישובים מהאלף הרביעי לפני הספירה, ומהמאות ה-8 עד ה-10 לפנה"ס המעידים על ההתיישבות המוקדמת בשטחה של תל אביב. רוב המערות נאטמו כדי לשמרן. בראש התל עמוד זיכרון למבצע צליחת הירקון על ידי הצבא הבריטי במלחמת העולם הראשונה.
