Description
Türkçe: Atatürk’ün sağlığındaki ilk büstü, dönemin Seyr-i Sefain (Deniz Yolları) İdaresi Genel Müdürü Sadullah Güney’in teklifiyle 1926’da heykeltıraş Kenan Ali Yontunç’a yaptırılarak yolcu salonunun önüne yerleştirildi. Güney, idaredeki görevinin yanı sıra 1929’da, Atatürk’ün talimatıyla Yalova Termal Kaplıcaları’nın modern bir tesis olarak hizmete açılması görevini üstlendi. Tophane’de bulunan Seyr-i Sefain İdaresi’nin 1933’te lağvedilmesinin ardından buradan taşınan büst, 1967’de Denizcilik Bankası Denizyolları İşletmesi tarafından kaplıcalara hediye edildi.


Öte yandan; bir dönem Yontunç’la çalışmış olan Alman heykeltıraş Her Gros 1931’de, Türkiye’nin çeşitli bölgelerinde Yontunç imzasıyla sergilenen kimi eserlerin kendisine ait olduğunu iddia etti. 23 Temmuz 1931 tarihli “Son Posta” gazetesinde, heykeltıraş Sabiha Ziya’nın, bu iddiaların gerçek olduğunu belirten bir yazısı yayımlandı. Gros’un şahit gösterdiği Esnaf Bankası Müdürü Faik Bey ise, ilerleyen günlerde “Vakit” gazetesine verdiği demeçte Alman heykeltıraşı tanımadığını ifade ederek söz konusu haberleri yalanladı.
