Description
English: The map of the Duchy of Gelre and the county of Zutphen was published by Nicolaes Visscher II (1649-1702). The map was based on a series of maps from the hand of Nicolaas van Geelkercken (c. 1585-1656). After having reported the military operations against Spain, Van Geelkercken started working as surveyor commissioned by the Court of Gelderland at the end of the thirties. In 1628 Van Geelkercken was commissioned to produce maps of the duchy of Gelre and its 4 quarters. These maps served as appendices to the historiography of Gelre by Johan Isaksson Pontanus.
