"Öl/lw./Holz, 114 x 89,5 cm, etw. rest. - Die dargestellte Philippine Charlotte war Schwester Friedrichs des Großen. - Provenienz: Kunsthandel Hülsmann, Hamburg; Privatsammlung Sylt. - Figuren- und Historienmaler, preußischer Hofmaler unter drei Königen. P. wurde ausgebildet von seinem Vater und Charles de la Fosse, dem Hofmaler Ludwig XIV. Ein Stipendium ermöglichte ihm ab 1705 einen mehrjährigen Italienaufenthalt, bevor er 1710 als Hofmaler nach Berlin berufen wurde und später mit Knobelsdorff bei der Ausstattung der von diesem errichteten Schlösser zusammenarbeitete, darunter Schloß Sanssouci. Mit seinen an Watteau orientierten intimen Figurendarstellungen ist P. nicht nur ein Hauptvertreter des friderizianischen, sondern auch des französischen Rokoko.
