Notes "The present work closely follows a portrait, also given to Pierre Gobert, of the Princess which now hangs at the Musée Condé, Chantilly (acc. no. PE 377). One of ten children, Princess Caroline of Hesse-Rheinfels married Louis Henri, Duc de Bourbon as his second wife in 1728. Once considered a possible match for the young King Louis XV, she was discarded on account of her bad temper. She and Louis Henri went on to have one child, Louis Joseph, Prince of Condé." [3]
