Description
English: Antique vacuum tube radio receiver, the Atwater Kent Model 4660 (9C) from 1924. Atwater Kent radios were distinctive because they did not have a metal case; the components were installed on a wooden "breadboard" in the open. This radio was a tuned radio frequency design, with the lefthand tube a single stage radio frequency amplifier and the three tubes on the right a grid leak detector and two stages of audio amplifier. The dials of the two variometers had to be tuned in tandem to the desired station. Information from Atwater Kent breadboard receivers, SparkMuseum.com website. Exhibit in the Bayernhof Museum, 225 St. Charles Place, O'Hara Township, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Photography was permitted in the museum without restriction.
