| Description |
English: Audlem Locks No 9, Shropshire Union Canal, Cheshire This image was taken while standing on the bottom mitre gates of Lock No 9, looking south towards Lock No 8. Snows Bridge is also visible further up the flight. The fifteen locks at Audlem alter the water level by a total of 93 feet, (about 28.4 metres) in one and three quarter miles (or 2.8 kilometres).
The canal was fully opened in 1835, engineered by Thomas Telford, and is 66.5 miles in length. It was originally called the Birmingham and Liverpool Junction Canal. |
