Notes Deze Heilige Sebastiaan zou door Augustin van den Berghe gekopieerd zijn naar een werk dat zijn leermeester Joseph Benoît Suvée heeft geschilderd tijdens zijn verblijf te Rome. De Heilige Sebastiaan wordt door Suvée in 1777 van Rome naar Parijs gezonden en beoordeeld door de jury van de academie. Het jaar nadien stelt Suvée het doek nogmaals tentoon op het Parijse Salon, ditmaal samen met de Naakte krijger. Beide werken ontvangen gunstige kritiek. Lange tijd werd gedacht dat het hier om de originele werken van Suvée ging, totdat de kunsthistoricus Denis Coekelberghs het origineel van de Heilige Sebastiaan in een kasteel te Famenne ontdekte. Jammer genoeg is het door Denis Coekelberghs teruggevonden schilderij in Famenne ondertussen alweer verloren gegaan ten gevolge van een diefstal. Waarschijnlijk heeft Augustin Van den Berghe de werken gekopieerd tijdens zijn leertijd bij Suvée in Parijs.
