Left hand drive version of the Austin 1800 "Balanza" This car was "car of the year 1964" in Europe. The Austin 1800 was named "Balanza" because of the special suspension system that allowed the car to stay horizontal on bumpy roads. The British -Greek Alec Issigonis succeeded to create an original car. It was designed with a lot of living room. even in the back long legged persons could find a relaxing seat with lots of legroom. The car was quiet, fast and confortable with very good road handling qualities The suspension system was also known aa the Gin-and-Tonic system, well known from the Austin and Morris mini/seven and glider/1100 A later version of the engine was a six cylinder 2200 |
