AWM caption :
Identified is 210 Private John McCracken (left) and 320 Private Lucian Franklin Hayward. The centre soldier is unidentified, but believed to be Private William James Neild. All three were involved in the capture of a Maxim gun; for this action Hayward was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) and McCracken and Neild were both mentioned in despatches. Hayward's name is wrongly entered in the records as Lessian." |
