Summary edit
DescriptionAutumn Visitors to Gelert's Grave - geograph.org.uk - 265305.jpg |
English: Autumn Visitors to Gelert's Grave The legend concerning the loyal dog Gelert slain by his master Prince Llywelyn http://www.beddgelerttourism.com/gelert/ http://www.bbc.co.uk/cymru/gogleddorllewin/safle/chwedlau/pages/gelert1.shtml is a pure fabrication. It was dreamt up around 1810 by Dafydd Prisiart, the enterprising early owner of the Goat Hotel, with an eye to the English trade, and has been paying dividend ever since. The 'Gelert' in Beddgelert was probably an itinerant sixth century Irish saint. |
