The river with Infirmary Bridge, Castle, Steeple and Cathedral prominent, from Ness Walk/Bught Road

The Infirmary bridge crosses the Ness between the Royal Northern Infirmary (now UHI) and Cavell gardens. This suspension footbridge was erected at a cost of £2000 (about £1,000,000 in modern money) and opened in 1879. It was made by W.Smith and Son at Ness Iron works on Rose street, later to be the Rose Street Foundry www.nessriver.co.uk/pages/nessriver/infirmaryBridge.html


Snow fell sporadically on Friday and then with a vengeance on Friday night through to Saturday morning. Although below zero during the day, Saturday turned out quite a nice (but slushy) day and the white blanket (and consequent low traffic volume) meant the Town (sorry City) was relatively quiet! - thus allowing your humble photographer to take these shots.
