Autun (Saône-et-Loire) Porte Saint-André (Ier siècle av. J.C.). L'enceinte antique d'Autun était percée de quatre portes monumentales, dont trois substistent. La porte d'Arroux, au nord; la porte Saint-André, à l'est; la porte Saint-Andoche, dont il ne subsiste qu'une tour, à l'ouest; la porte de Rome, qui a disparu, au sud. Les quatre portes sont bâties sur le même modèle : deux grandes arches jumelles, pour le passage des chariots, encadrées de deux petites arches pour celui des piétons. Ces arches sont encadrées de deux tours en fer à cheval. Les arches sont surmontées d’une galerie. Les décors de chacune des portes sont par contre différents. Des indices suggèrent qu'il y avait des accès secondaires. La porte Saint-André ouvrait en direction de Langres et Besançon (Vesontio), à l'extrémité est de la rue principale est-ouest (decumanus maximus). Une tour latérale conservée en grande partie a été convertie au Moyen-Âge en église dédiée à Saint-André (actuellement, c'est un petit temple protestant). Au XIXe siècle, Viollet-le-Duc a reconstitué une des arcades piétonnes et couvert la galerie supérieure de tuiles. |
