Azay-le-Ferron (Indre) Château d'Azay-le-Ferron. La tour est le seul vestige important du château féodal. Elle fut élevée pour Prégent Frotier (1425 - 1497) à la fin du XVe siècle. Une inscription au sommet porte la date de 1496. Prégent Frotier est le fils de Pierre Frotier (avant 1390 - 1459), baron de Preuilly et du Blanc, et de Marguerite de Preuilly* (+1445) fille de Gilles de Preuilly. Le père, Pierre Frotier avait d'abord pris le parti des Armagnac puis il passa au service du roi Charles VI. Il sera écuyer puis grand maître de l'écurie de Charles VI, ensuite sénéchal du Poitou sous Charles VII. Antoine de Preuilly, frère de Gilles de Preuilly,fut tué en 1423, laissant la seigneurie de la Roche-Posay à ses enfants, Pierre et Louise. Pierre étant mort sans alliance, la seigneurie passa à sa soeur Louise, mariée à Geoffroy Chasteignier qui devint ainsi baron de la Roche-Posay. Son fils Guy Chasteignier devint naturellement baron de la Roche-Posay. Prégent Frotier (ou Frottier), mécontent que la baronnie de la Roche-Posay fut distraite de celle de Preuilly, contesta cet héritage à Guy Chasteignier. Il obtint de Louis XI, en 1471, une lettre de cachet en vertu de laquelle il prit possession du château de la Roche-Posay, d'où il chassa sa grand'tante maternelle (Louise).
