Description
English: In 1604, Hondius acquired Mercator's plates and set about producing a new atlas. He engraved several new maps for it, of which this map is an example. For the depiction of the East Indies he drew heavily on Plancius' map of 1594. Map shows India, China including the Malay peninsula and Indochina, northern Borneo and the Philippines. The decorative detail includes a sea monster and an oriental junk in the Bay of Bengal as well as scrollwork title and scale cartouches.
