Hulda Garborg (1862 –1934) was a Norwegian writer, folk dancer, and theatre instructor. She was married to writer Arne Garborg, and is today best known for kindling interest in the bunad tradition: Hulda Garborg coined the term 'bunad' for the national costumes inspired by traditional folk costumes. Her dream was a return to folk costumes for the Norwegian people, as she was preoccupied with the idea of a reform costume, a woman' s costume that would replace the contemporary prevailing fashion of tight and uncomfortable clothes. The bunad would be both practical and created by Norwegian materials, such as wool and linen. The costume was also based on the women's festive costume from Gol in Hallingdal. She created her own 'Hulda Garborg bunad'.
