Kawasan Taman Nasional Bogani Nani Wartabone merupakan habitat salah satu satwa endemik sulawesi dari famili Suidae yaitu babirusa. Babirusa adalah satwa serupa babi. Nama babirusa di Sulawesi sering disebut Kalawatan untuk yang jantan dan wiri untuk yang betina masyarakat Gorontalo sering menyebut babi putih untuk babirusa. Berdasarkan IUCN Red List, babirusa dari pulau buru dan babirusa sulawesi masuk kategori vulnerable (VU; rentan) dan Babirusa kepulauan togean masuk kategori endangered (EN; terancam). Klasifikasi Ilimiah Babirusa: Kerajaan: Animalia, Filum: Chordata, Kelas: Mammalia, Ordo: Artiodactyla, Famili: Suidae, Genus: Babyrousa, Spesies: Babyrousa babyrussa. Babirusa salah satu endemik Sulawesi dan pulau sekitarnya seperti kepulauan togean dengan jenis Babyrousa togeanensis (babirusa togean) meliputi pulau Batudaka, Togean, Malenge dan Talatakoh secara administrasi berada di Propinsi Sulawesi Tengah dan pulau buru. Babirusa termasuk hewan yang hidup berkelompok walaupun ada beberapa hewan dijumpai dalam keadaan soliter. Karena hdup berkelompok maka Perilaku babirusa bersifat allomimatic atau sering disebut perilaku menular dan memiliki komponen yang kuat dari fasilitas sosial, imitasi dan koordinasi kelompok.
