Description |
Pictured here as a New York Yankee, third baseman Frank Baker (1886-1963) was the top slugger in baseball’s deadball era. He earned the moniker Home Run Baker because of two clutch home runs that helped win games two and three of the 1911 World Series, which ended in a championship for his Philadelphia Athletics. Baker was the American League home run king four consecutive years, hitting 11 round-trippers in 1911, 10 in 1912, 12 in 1913, and 9 in 1914. His 13-year playing career (1908-1922) included three World Series championships, all with the A's. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955. |
