Description
English: Balantine on the schooner Spirit of Massachusetts:
"A balantine is a special type of coil designed to allow the rope to feed out smoothly. Another way to think of it is that it is a circular flake. Before you can even start the balantine you must make a working coil which then leaves you the bitter end to start with. Working in a clockwise direction you first lay down a large circle that will be the overall diameter. Then continuing in a clockwise direction you make three small loops overlapping with each other like a ven-diagram. Then just continue going around stacking the line on top of what you have done so far." (description from flickr)
