Summary edit

Description
English: Built about 1903, this was the first brick building on Market Street (then known as Broadway) and at the time of its construction the rest of the block was still filled with single family homes. The upper floor was initially occupied as a residence by the Hess family, who owned a candy store on Ballard Avenue. The ground floor was divided between storage space and Charles Tibbetts' law office.

The building shares its parcel with a 1 story building that wraps around its north and west sides, built about 1913, it housed the Ballard Post office for several decades.

Most of the buildings on this block including this one have been recently (2022) demolished for new development. Being just outside the limits of the Ballard Avenue historic district, none of them were protected.
