Description
English: This building at 5219-21 Ballard Ave NW was constructed in 1902 by Seattle businessman John A. Landstrom. In the 1910s the upper floor was occupied by the local chapter of the infamous w:Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) and later served as a hotel under names such as The Annex and the St. Elmo. By the mid 1950s, the building was heavily deteriorated and close to condemnation, in May 1962, the building was completely remodeled to the pictured appearance and its neighbor demolished to shore up the walls. For over 40 years it was occupied by a paint supply store, whose signage remained on the building even after it became the home of Bop Street Records, which would move to a new location in the 2010s before closing for good in 2020. The Landstrom Building was miraculously restored to its original condition in 2016.
