Summary edit

Description
English: The Pyle Building at 5419 Ballard Ave NW was constructed in 1913 by former King County deputy Sheriff Frank R. Pyle for use as a saloon and restaurant. A mezzanine above the ground floor served as a private residence, accessed by the door to the right of the storefront. In 1916 the building became the 4th branch of Seattle's first grocery chain-store, Groceteria, with Pyle serving as the store's first manager. The groceteria occupied the building until about 1929 at which point it became a welfare office, and it has served as office space ever since.
