Description
Collotype reproduction of original painting by Hy Sandham depicting the game in the Temple Cup Series between Baltimore and New York. The collotype was printed in Paris in 1896 by Boussod Valadon & Co., successors to Goupil & Co., Paris, London and New York. The individual portraits printed with the Sandham reproduction presumably include National League officials and players who participated in the Temple Cup from 1894 through 1896. New York won the series four games to none. The Temple Cup was awarded to the winner of a postseason series between the two National League teams with the best records. Pittsburgh Pirates owner William Chase Temple donated the cup. The series ran from 1894 to 1897.
