Summary
editDescriptionBamburgh Castle - geograph.org.uk - 455087.jpg |
English: Bamburgh Castle Bamburgh Castle can be seen from miles away. It is perched on a basalt outcrop and faces out over the North Sea at Bamburgh in Northumberland.
Part of the castle dates from the Norman times (the large square keep in the middle) and it was added to through the centuries. It was extensively restored, first by Lord Crewe in the 1750s and more recently by the first Lord Armstrong at the end of the 19th century. The castle continues to be the home of the Armstrong family. A number of archeological digs have taken place at the castle to unearth information of early settlements. |
