Summary edit

Description
English: The Grand Royal Palace is located in PhraboromMahaRatchawangsubdistrict, PhraNakorn district. This palace is an extravaganza of royal edifices, legacies of Ratannakosin kingdom through a period of over 200 years. King Buddha YodfaChulaloke, King Rama I, ordered construction of this palace, along with the establishment of the capital city in 1782.

This royal complex is divided into 3 sections – the outer court, comprising government agencies e.g. the Bureau of the Royal Household, the Office of His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary etc.; the middle court, the most important section, comprising a group of residences and throne halls, e.g. ChakriMahaPrasat Throne Hall, BoromPhiman Mansion, PaisanTaksin Throne Hall, and DusitMahaPrast Throne Hall; and the inner court, comprising former residences of royal family members.

Within the complex is situated WatPhra Si RattanaSatsadaram. The principal ubosot features a gilded, crafted wooden gable adorned with pieces of glass displaying an image of Vishnu riding garuda, a royal emblem of Chakri Dynasty, and houses the ‘Emerald Buddha’, a Buddha image that has long been the guardian of spirit of Thai people. A group of notable religious buildings also include PrasatPhraThepBidon (The Royal Pantheon), Ho PhraMonthianTham (the Supplementary Library), Ho PhraNak (Hall for the Relics of Princes and Princesses),and cloisters displaying mural painting and an epic poem ‘Ramayana’.
