English: The temple of Goddess Vankali is located in the forest of Vankali, south of Deupatan in Pashupati area of Kathmandu. This goddess is also called Vandevi. The name of the forest is derived from the name of this temple. The idol of Goddess Vankali was erected by Licchavi king Shivadev. Therefore, this idol of the goddess is counted among the ancient. There is no roof in this temple, an idol has been installed under the open sky. There is also a dharamshala in the temple premises.
At Motitar 33 ropanis of land has been set aside as a guthi for worshiping the Vankali and conducting guthi. From the same income, regular worship of Goddess Vankali is being done. On the day of Akshaya Tritiya in the month of Baishakh, it is customary to sacrifice two calves and two goats for the Vankali. Similarly, in Shravan, Ashwin, Magh and Chaitra months, there is a tradition of offering sacrifices in the forest. |
