Summary
editDescriptionBaptismal font in St Lawrence's parish church, Castle Rising, Norfolk, England.jpg |
English: Baptismal font in St Lawrence's parish church, Castle Rising, Norfolk, England.
St Lawrence's church is late Norman, but the font came from the earlier church dedicated to St Felix that stood under what is now the castle ramparts. St Felix brought Christianity to East Anglia in about AD 630 AD. "Felix" is Latin for cat and it is thought that the mason who carved the font symbolised this with cats' faces on the west side of the font. |
