Description
English: Quartzite from the Precambrian of Wisconsin, USA.

Quartzite is a crystalline-textured, monomineralic, intermediate- to high-grade metamorphic rock composed of quartz (SiO2 - silicon dioxide). It forms by metamorphism of sandstone, or sometimes by cooking siltstone or chert.

Stratigraphy: Baraboo Quartzite, upper Paleoproterozoic, ~1.7 Ga

Locality: unrecorded / undisclosed site at or near the town of Ableman (also known as Rock Springs), southern Wisconsin, USA
