English: This view of Barcelona, Spain was captured in the early evening and the setting sun gave a warm colour to the city. Visible in the foreground is part of the port, with a cruise ship easily seen. Barcelona is a major centre in the Mediterranean Cruise scene.
Just visible on the far right of the picture are the towers of the Sagrada Familia which is a large unfinished Roman Catholic church. Work on it started in 1882 and continues. The current estimate for completion is sometime about 2027. It is the masterpiece of Antonio Gaudi, an outstanding architect, and there are several examples of his work in the city. In relation to the slow pace of construction, legend has it that Gaudi said "My client is not in a hurry" whilst looking to the sky. Sadly he was killed by a tram in 1926 but construction has continued, on and off, since. Looking to the skyline you can see Tibidabo mountain with, left to right, the communication tower known as the Torre de Collserola. It was designed by British architect Norman Foster (now Lord Foster). It's a narrow column, supported by guy wires. Surprisingly, perhaps, it's possible to take a lift up the column to a viewing platform 560 metres (1837 feet) above sea level, which gives outstanding views over the city. Lastly, a short way to the right of the tower, at the top of the mountain, is a lofty church - the Temple de Sagrat Cor, which was built in 1806. Just below the church is a small and quaint theme park, which itself is historical and also provides great views over the city.Español: (Traducción de Google ... )
