Description
English: A large water pit in the border area of Tornio, Finland, and Haparanda, Sweden. It stands as a reminder of the now cancelled Barents Center construction project. The idea of the project (construction permit in 2014) was to build a center that would have combined a multipurpose arena, shops, a hotel, and a school, among other things.
Suomi: Barents Center -rakennushankkeen "monttu" Haaparannalla Ruotsin ja Suomen välisellä rajalla. Paikalle oli tarkoitus rakentaa keskus, jossa olisi ollut muun muassa monitoimiareena, kaupallisia tiloja, hotelli ja lukio. Vuonna 2014 rakennusluvan saanut hanke keskeytyi kuitenkin lähes alkuunsa.
