Summary edit

Description
English: « Along the Lungomare seafront promenade, you will reach a person whose life was anything but lonely, and whose life philosophy was very simple. He lived from people and for people, and made his living by offering his big heart and small boat to tourists. This is the boatman of Opatija, known in the local dialect as barkajol. This good spirit of the local area found his place here in the small harbour, known locally as portić, reaching out his hand to welcome you. This statue is a tribute to all the ordinary people of the Opatija Riviera, who over time have contributed to Opatija becoming and remaining a fashionable European tourist resort. The sculptor is another female artist from Opatija, Tatjana Kostanjević (originally from Požega). Many regard her as the 'in-house sculptor of Opatija'. The Barkajol is the third inhabitant of Opatija that was made in her workshop. Apart from him, she has also given new life to some other famous people who were connected to Opatija. » – visitopatija.com
