English: Barmouth Bridge Barmouth Bridge looking south-east with Braich Ddu (536m) in the background.
The railway arrived in Barmouth in the 1860's and the metal section of the bridge was improved in the 1880's from a cantilever arrangement to the present arrangement which allows the first span section of the bridge to pivot 90 degrees. This was designed to allow sailing ships access to the Mawddach estuary and the small quay (Aberamffra) which lies just beyond it to the east. This picture was taken at low tide 5pm Saturday 29th September 2007. |
