Summary edit
DescriptionBarmston Main Drain - geograph.org.uk - 810606.jpg |
English: Barmston Main Drain, south of Barmston, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The long wooden footbridge over Barmston Main Drain on the parish boundary between Barmston and Ulrome. East of here on the coast, the drain disappears into a pipe set in concrete which carries water draining off the farmland out into the sea. Under the Beverley and Barmston Drainage Act of 1798, part of Barmston Main Drain (and also part of The Earl's Dike to the north of the village) was diverted eastward towards the sea from its natural westward course into the floodplains of the River Hull. |
