Summary

edit
Description Arms of Barrett: Barry of four per pale counterchanged argent and gules (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.52 "Barrett of Bellhouse, Aveley, Essex", but blazoned unsatisfactorily as Argent and gules barry of four counterchanged; "Barrett of Essex" blazoned elsewhere as Per pale argent and gules, four bars counterchanged). The ancient manor of Bellhouse is today represented by w:Belhus, Essex, a golf course built on the parkland of the demolished manor house, last occupied by the Barrett-Lennard family who auctioned the contents of Belhus House in 1923. The house was demolished after World War II.
