| Description |
English: Bascule Bridge, Shadwell This shows the bascule bridge that allows ships access in and out of Shadwell Basin. This is the so called 'new' entrance, (although Victorian). There was a smaller 'old' entrance slightly further west, but it was filled in after the Second World War. The bus crossing the bridge is on route D3, from Bethnal Green (London Chest Hospital) to Isle of Dogs (ASDA, Crossharbour). It is unlikely that the bridge can be opened now, as the basin is not used for shipping. |
