Naval battle near Ter Heijde on 10 August 1653, during the First Anglo-Dutch War. In the middle the Brederode, the Dutch flagship of Maarten Tromp is in combat with the English flagship Resolution under the command of admiral Monk.

Dk. / De afbeelding van den Roemrijken Zeeſlag tusſchen den Hollandſchen Luitenant Admiraal Hertog en Ridder Michiel Adriaansz. de Ruiter, en den Engelſchen Admiraal Monk, Hertog van Albemarle; in welken de groote Steng van het Schip van de Ruiter wordt afgeſchooten. Zijnde voorgevallen den 12 Junij 1666, den tweeden dag der vier dagen aanhoudene Bataille; waar van de verdere bijzonderheden te vinden zijn in de folio uitgave van ’t leven van M. A. de Ruiter, door Gerard Brandt, pag. 486., en in de octavo uitgave bij Allart, 3 deel, pag. 53. / Deze capitale en ongemeen rijke ordinantie, zoo van Schepen als groot aantal figuren, is een wonder van vinding en verbeeldingskracht, welks wedergade in dit opzigt niet bekend is. / Zilverachtig van toon. Uitvoerig, meesterlijk en krachtig geſchilderd.’)
