Description
English: Detail from the July 1916 Seattle Sanborn Map, showing the Bay View Brewery at the dawn of prohibition while the machinery was being dismantled. The only new brick buildings added since the 1904 map were the cold storage plant (labeled vacant) next to the boiler room and a tiny office room across the courtyard, which would eventually be expanded into the brewery's post-prohibition main office. The large wooden building above labeled "House Keeping Rooms" was actually a giant brothel built as part of a proposed red light district in 1910, shortly after founder Andrew Hemrich's death. His old home and the adjacent duplex, shown now moved further up the hill and behind the house, were incorporated into the brothel complex while Kirschner's identical mansion has disappeared from the map, a huge mysterious concrete foundation overlapping part of the former site. The old brothel would outlast the Hemrich house and serve as apartments before making way for the construction of Interstate 5.
