English: Imagine a prism ABCD, fixed at right angle to a vertical wall on its face AB, which holds a weight wE at the opposite end E. In the point B the wall niche acts as fulcrum for the lever BC, at the end of which the weight of is applied to the prism; half of the thickness of the solid BA is the other arm of the lever, in which resides the resistance, which consists of the cohesion between the part of the solid that is outside the wall and the part that is inside the wall. |
