Lot Essay: "Les deux artistes, qui étaient cousins germains, travaillaient souvent en collaboration; il est aujourd'hui difficile de différencier leurs oeuvres. Ils furent peintres officiels de la Cour sous les règnes de Louis XIII et de Louis XIV.

Henriette Marie, fille d'Henri IV, fut l'épouse de Charles 1er d'Angleterre. La guerre civile la contraignit à quitter son royaume et s'installer au Louvre, avec sa fille Henriette Anne. Après la restauration de la royauté, son fils devint roi d'Angleterre sous le nom de James II."
