Description
English: Beaulieu River at dusk, Pottern Ford, New Forest. The Beaulieu River meanders its way across the heathland southeast of Lyndhurst, for most of its length only a few metres wide and usually with a surrounding strip of deciduous riverine woodland. Here at Pottern Ford the river temporarily broadens out and the banks are clear of trees. When the river floods, as it does after heavy rain, the silt deposited on the banks fertilises the ground and lush lawns grow - obviously popular grazing places for the wandering ponies and cattle.
