Description
English: Those ogives are about all that is left of the former abbey church. It's part of the transept. The old abbey church was destroyed from 1809 to 1811. Villagers took the stones to build their houses with them. Said church was the sixth church built on this place and was built from 1275 to 1325. Most of the nave came down in 1591. In 1640 the western entry was deliberately destroyed to rescue the rest of the church by adding a "normal" façade. This patchwork church was still huge. Before the nave fell, the church was 130 metres long and 30 metres high. Many works of art were in the church at the time of the French Revolution (1789-1799). Some of them were moved to other churches especially in Bernay and also in the church of Le Bec-Hellouin.
