Description

Exhibition description: Xu Guangqi (1562-1633 AD)

Xu Guangqi was an astronomer during the Ming Dynasty, and was a colleague and collaborator with the Italian Jesuit, Matteo Ricci, in translating western scientific texts. He is famous for his contribution to the development of 'Chong zhen Lishu', the first comprehensive treatise on western astronomical knowledge to be produced in China. The reform of the calendar during this time greatly influenced the development of Chinese science and technology.
